A commitment to understanding literacy
My work explores how language shapes understanding, trust and meaning -- especially for learners navigating multiple languages. Through writing, communication influences the way people interpret knowledge, authority and uncertainty. Literacy, to me, is not only about words, but about how ideas are received, misunderstood, and transformed.

About Evelyn H.J. Tan
I transferred from a public middle school in Shanghai to a U.S. public high school in ninth grade.
Learning across languages and educational systems has influenced how I approach writing, learning, and communication.
As an ESL student, I am interested in how language shapes thought and expression.
Alongside my own writing, I volunteer as an online writing instructor for elementary students, focusing on confidence and clarity rather than perfection.
Crafting narratives, fostering growth
I believe that every word holds power, and every story deserves to be told. My approach to both writing and teaching is centered on fostering critical thinking, encouraging authentic expression, and building a strong foundation for future success.
